Harnessing Lagrange Points for Deep Space Communications, Data Relay, and PNT Infrastructure

※本講演は英語での講演となります。

Deep space communications, data relay, and Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) systems are fundamental to the continued expansion of human and robotic presence beyond Earth orbit. Leveraging Lagrange points—gravitationally stable locations in the Solar System—offers a strategic advantage for enhancing these capabilities. This presentation explores the deployment of communication and PNT infrastructure at key Lagrange locations, enabling persistent connectivity for spacecraft operating in deep space environments including when traveling to and from interplanetary destinations. Lagrange point relays provide line-of-sight advantages, reduced latency pathways, and extended coverage for missions obscured by planetary bodies or operating at extreme distances. Furthermore, a constellation of multiple Lagrange point relays can support a resilient, distributed network that underpins autonomous navigation and timing services independent of Earth-based systems. This Lagrange-based architecture represents a critical enabler for sustained lunar operations, Mars exploration, Asteroid Belt activities, and scalable interplanetary internet.
